Editing

Revision, also known as editing or cross-check, identifies a more in-depth process of rereading the translated text, compared to proof-reading, and represents a further phase of control following the latter, in order to ensure the actual quality of the translated text in all its aspects.

The reviser does not merely verify the spelling, grammatical, syntactic and lexical correctness of the translated text while also checking its punctuation and formatting, as is the case in proof-reading, but depending on the type of text being revised, compares the translated text with the original text, making improvements in terms of terminology and style, for instance by reworking excessively literal translations or translations poorly faithful to the tone of the original text.
